Getting the Wheeling Fever

My son just purchased an 89 Raider V6/AT. The transfer case will not shift, as in the shift lever will not move. He bought it from a fella that never put it in 4WD...yeah NEVER. But the rest of the "RIG" is in great shape. Don't suppose the fix for this is as easy as pull the lever out squirt some ATF on the parts and away we go? The tranny works great otherwise. Thanks for your help! Terry
