Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey everyone
I have an 87 4Runna with a 22RE in it.
Once it warms up, the idle wil surge up and down when i come to a stop.
I have been told this could be th EGR but is there a diagnostic code or some way of finding out exactly what it is before spending close to $200 for an EGR??
