Getting the Wheeling Fever
I noticed recently that when my jeep is under a load it sounds like it's missfiring when I try to accelerate quickly. It sounds like my lifters (i think it's this) is clicking. It sounded at first like an exhaust leak but it only does it when i'm driving and I really try to accelerate. Doesn't do it when it's just sitting still though and I rev the engine. How can I fix this, or does it need to be adjusted is all? Any help is apperciated, thanks.

Doh, been a long weekend. It's a 98 TJ Wrangler 4.0L with 70k miles on it. It's had regular oil changes and fluids recently changed.

Body Damage is Cool
I'd do a quick check on the timing first, in particular the advance settings.

What should I be looking for. I've felt for a leak and didn't feel one and it's wierd if it's sitting I rev it up and I dont hear it, only when i'm driving <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

sounds to me that we have the same issue... except mine is with my 1-year old mopar fuel injection kit on an '87 4.2.

in my case, under heavy acceleration, there seems to be a "chatter" noise @2100+ rpms. worked on the timing and i still have the noise. i know it has to be from the engine/mopar kit because it wasn't there prior to the kit installation.

i'm still trying to narrow this noise down.

You guys do know that injectors do make a noise everytime they close? I betcha you are hearing injector noise and worrying about it. My wifes suburban clicks so loud you'd swear it was lifters. But it is just the injectors doing their job.

ok, but wouldn't that happen all of the time? at idle and normal driving?

in my case, the noise makes quite a racket, at the 2100+ rpm point.

i'm stomped.

Well it could be valve clatter. Put a light on it and slowly raise the rpm while watching the timing change. See when the centrifical and when the vacuum timing comes in and what the timing is around the 2100 mark. Could be you need a different set of springs or some spring dialed into the vac advance.
