some inspectors are "by the book" and don't realisticly think how retarded the rules are. that's true, another true that now ALL RHD approved in Victoria and in fact, inspectors do paper work for their approval. I faced four inspectors before found the good one. It would be nice if they follow "their book"! Those idiots failed DOT lights and refuse to explain why, refuse to show their manual, I've got impression they do not have it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> Try High Output Automotive in Richmond, BC, checked by myself and my Pajero <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I changed tires it is not big deal, so now I have spare set for winter. Go to www.15years.ca, - the great place to get legal advice. Cheers,

Howdy all. I brought my first Pajero in in Feb and had quite a time with the inspector I took it to (Scottsdale Husky in North Delta). After weeks of back-and-forth, I came to the conclusion that the inspection facility was full of crap and didn't know what they were doing. I looked on the net for BC gov agencies and came up with Brian Kangas' ph number, so I called him and asked him what needs doing. I found him to be very reasonable, helpfull and matter-of-fact, and he told me exactly what I needed to do. After passing the inspection, I discovered Werner's Auto Klinic in Delta, in the Tilbury Industrial area. I had the ministry send my VIN tag to him rather than the Husky and he installed it for me. The next Pajero will go to him for the inspection for sure. As far as what's required, my opinion is that everything is justified and fair. Sure, replacing the 1156 and 1157 bulbs is a little over-kill, but making sure the tires meet North American standards, as well as the safety glass, side-marker reflectors, etc, I don't have a problem with these things at all. My wife drives my 2-year-old in this vehicle and I'm fine with replacing suspect items. The thing that puzzled me was the headlight lenses, until it was explained to me. The stockers aim into on-coming traffic while the N American Montero lenses focus where they ought to. I sure don't mean to lecture, and, believe me, after buying 7 temp permits to have it inspected, I'm highly aware of how frustrating the process can be, however, now that I am armed with the knowledge of what I have to do before the inspection, I think the next one will go smoothly. Has anyone posted a list of everything that needs to be done? Here's the list I was given by Mr Kangas: -Daytime running lights -Safety Nuetral switch -Glass must have AS1 or AS2 stamped on them.(Stock will have it, aftermarket, maybe not.) -Front and rear side-marker reflectors -DOT headlight assemblies -High-mount brake light -Every bulb had to be DOT -Tires must have North American air-pressure ratings
Brian told me that the only reason for replacing turn signals is that the N American ones have the reflectors integral, and that he was happy with replaced bulbs and added side-marker reflectors. I was concerned with the fact that the side-rear windows in my LWB are marked AS3 until I walked around my cul-de-sac and saw that 2 Pathfinders, a Trooper, and a Blazer were all marked AS3 on that window. The other thing I had to do (according to the dick at the Husky, not Mr Kangas) was to supply measurements for the brakes as to their degree of wear. I found a chart on the "Disc Brakes Austrlia" website and deciphered their model names, highlighted the "new" and "minimum" specs for my LWB's brake discs and gave a print-out to the inspector. I hope this helps a few people. Happy Mitsuing!

I was asked for it during my inspection, but I just told them I didn't have the information, so I suppose they made an educated guess on remaining pad and rotor material.

Hi Redbull, I suck at techy stuff like adding links,so I'll just have to tell you where to find the chart. Go to www.dba.com.au or google disc brakes australia. On their home page you'll see a menu down the left. The second item down is "product catalogue", click it. On the middle of the screen will pop up "select a catalogue". Select Australia, then select mitsubishi, and it will ask if you want to download it: yes. It will download an Acrobat PDF. Scroll down several pages to the "PAJERO / SHOGUN" page. It says it's page 90, but it's only maybe 10 pages from the beginning. They have funky model names, NA, NB, NC, NF, NG, NJ, etc. I determined that my 1992 LWB fell under the specs of the 4th listing from the top and the 7th listing from the top. I hope this helps you as much as your description of DRL's helped me! Cheers!

I forgot to talk about the required photos: -You need to have photos of the actual etching on the glass saying AS1, etc, on each window. -You need photos of the N American ratings on the tires -you need to have photos of the reflectors actually reflecting. I took these at night with the flash on.
In addition to those, I also provided photos from all 8 angles, ie, front, straight on; front right corner; right side straight on, etc, all the way around the truck. I also took a photo of the stock VIN tag on the firewall, and of the gauge cluster (odometer). Not sure if it was overkill, but the did the job.
