I agree with you in that all vehicles should pass the inspection for safety and in my opinion this shouldn't be a big deal it is just changing a few things, but when the government want to make all 1991 imported vehicles have "safety hardware" that most Canadian 1991 cars and trucks donÆt have well that is just stupid. If people donÆt want Right-Hand drive vehicles in Canada then get rid of the mail cars, street sweepers and garbage trucks. I think that there are probably less accidents with right-hand drive units than left-hand because ***** drivers wouldnÆt buy a right hand drive unit (so good luck trying to use that as an excuse to ban them). As for my truck it is in great shape, has all the safety done on it and is probably a hell of a lot safer to drive than most 1991 used Canadian Cars and trucks (and it doesnÆt hurt that it gets great fuel mileage too). Great Vehicle, Great fuel Mileage, Great price = who the hell cares what side of the Car I drive on. Please note DarthRaider I am not getting mad at you for this and I do belive that you were trying to help. In the end I love my Ride and I hope that in the future I can get another great vehicle at a great price. Thanks..

I am sure it is NOT clear AT ALL. How many pictures should be taken, from what distance etc.

Could anybody clarify it? I desperatly need to know, my 1991 Pajero is waiting for OOP.

Thanks to all!

The inspector(of your OOP) is going to have to clarify that he is the person who will be submitting the photos not the owner. I hope that helps

can I get an interim permit to bring it to Whistler then have a grace period to get it done?

Also, I have seen other things adressed like Catalytic converters, High mounted stop lights, Windshields that are not marked AS1, AS1, AS10, AS14.

Sure, you can get an interim permit to bring it to Whistler!
I've got it without any problem, and Pajero is my second RHD in Canada. Grace period is 45 days as I understand it in F1.

ALL ligths and windows should be marked DOT or SAE. Please correct me if I am wrong.

And funny thing, inspector told me DRL is not needed as far as car is older than 15 years

Now it is even more funny, inspector told me his licence expired

So, now I am looking for an honest inspector. Anybody can recommend one, please?

Thanks,

Getting the Wheeling Fever
O.K folks here is the latest on my ordeal.
I changed the headlights and front signal lights. Got the DRL's running and all windows conform to "code".
I went in to get a permit to take it to the garage for inspection and found out some new things (for me anyway).
1. I have to apply for a BC VIN#
2. The VIN# will not get issued until the inspection is done.
3. The VIN approval must go through Brian Kangas office from the CVSE in Victoria.
4. Only then will the vehicle get a VIN# and am able to register and Insure it.

The word from the Inspection garage is that thr Gov't would rather not even deal with these vehicles.
It is coming people.
I will send pics once it is on the road. It is a great vehicle though.

Body Damage is Cool
yea, my friend in Chilliwach bought a 1989 Nissan 180SX and did a silvia conversion on it. well the silvia headlights are not DOT so he had to convert the whole front end back to stock with the original sealed beams just to pass his inspection. then he changed back to the silvia front end after he got issued his new VIN#. I kind of like how B.C. stamps a metal plate with a new VIN# on the inside of the door jam.

Fixed that for you. Very little legislative hassles in Alberta so far AFAIK.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
What is today (B.C.) Inspection looks like?
I inspected my truck 16 months ago and it was very simple. They checked only brakes an lamps, everything was done in 1 hour (include VIN and paper work) and I wasn't replacing anithing.
Now my friend imported Toyota-Surf and he is in big inspection problem. They want him to replace all the lights, rear windows, and tires (tires are almost new!!)
It is going to be about $2000 over the expected price (that I calculated for him, it makes me feel really ancomfortable)
