Getting the Wheeling Fever
I know that 1st gen 4runners for wider axles are 86-89 (correct me if I'm wrong-semi noob).

My 85 4runner has a 2nd gen ('93 I think) rear third member with 4.88 gears/no lockers - bought it that way, but still has the original '85 axles, so it's still narrow.

My question is what is the best year to match up to my '93 third member to get the wider stance, and best brakes? And do the 2nd gen 4runners have the same lug pattern as 1st gen? I did a search, but I just got confused (mild a.d.d.) Thanks in advance.

'86-'89 4Runner and '86-'95 pickups:

2nd gen 4Runners have rear axles set up for coil springs, so more work to swap.

Yeah, I'm curious too. I'd like to take a look at that 4runner in person if we're not too far from each other. It looks really nice.

I'm in Berea KY (central KY - 35mi S of Lexington). Trying to restore as much of it cosmetically as I can and trying to get things to work - little shite like elec stuff and cosmetic stuff as well as getting suspension the way I like it.

There's another 85 4runner here in Berea that is rust free, clean inside out - showtruck quality for sale. I know the guy if any are interested. Sorry for change in topic - just trying to help out a guy who has a really cool runner for sale.
