Body Damage is Cool
Due to certain members of my state law enforcement agency i am fored to fabricate a rear bumper...looking for ideas, it will be 1.5" .120 wall tubing with a spare tire carrier hopefully incorporated into it somehow, although i dont want the tire vertical...asking for ideas/input...

I thought trucks weren't required to have rear bumpers... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I did find this...

1998 T-100 Xtra cab SR5 2WD Auto; Roadmaster Active Suspension; Yokohama Geolander HT-S; lowered air dam; full belly pan; 4? diffuser; 11" side skirts; dual transmission coolers; 67% grill blocked; Auto-RX'd; ScanGauge II/Ultra-Gauge

I say you build it out of square stock, beefy and make it closely resemble the original bumper shape but wrap it around the sides of the body more. Then add a tire carrier to it.

I vote for 'C' channel vs square stock - by all means wrap it around the rear corners if possible. If you are not worried about crash functionality then aluminum is a good choice weightwise.

Square would be strongest, C-channel the heaviest (my last choice), and the round tubing would be the lightest and easiest to have bent to make it look good.

Seeing as how your truck is basically a desert style truck, I'd go with the round tubing for looks and light weight. It will still be much stronger and give better protection than the stock tinfoil one.

Anyway, as for design- that is more up to personal preference. I was looking at desert trucks for ideas, but it looks like they don't even usually run a rear bumper.

This one looks a little more tire-carrier than bumper. If it were me, I'd want it to provide a little more protection and probably wrap around the corners, but I'm not sure what you're looking for. I'm not sure it would satisfy your local LEO's.

Maybe something that was kind of a combo of the tire carrier above and this Allpro bumper:

Or another from Marlin:

there was a guy way back that posted on our boards that ran desert style stuff that had a 4" lift and 3" BL. iirc, he had a rear tube bumper setup for desert style. i just remember a picture or two he posted.

I was thinking more along the lines of the ones on the runners posted here: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=107675
