This information is better coming from your state's DMV, DOT, DPS (whoever actually lists the statutes). That geocities list has been around a long time in several forms (iirc Truckworld was where I found it first), and it has our state's lift laws so far off I really wouldn't take it as gospel.

I have found round tube bumpers to suck in ways I didnt know possible when wet. You jump on up to try to get into the bed, slip, and whack your shin. Usually followed by a stream of obscenitys. Lots of obscenitys. My friend used some oil drilling tube stock and it was rough. Looked really cool though.

Here is mine made of square tubing. (Good weight for traction.) 35" spare in stock location. I should add some sides/corners someday. I integrated a Class III hitch bracket to the back side of the bumper as well for added strength. I made mine to better meet the 30" rear bumper height requirement in VA. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.roanokevalley.org/bumperrear.jpg) (this angle makes it look bigger than it is)

Ill be using my hitch receiver as a mounting point, im settled on 1.5" tubing since ive already got some DOM, I like the idea of putting the spare under the bed, but i like the idea that my spare will also offer a tailgate like function, being that i dont have one...
