I NEVER use rtv on a SEAL! It is a simple matter to drop the driveshaft and pull the yoke and then remove the seal and install the new one.. I always use a short piece of pipe or a large socket to beat on so the seal will be installed straight and not warp under hammer stress.

awesome thankyou. i replaced the seal...no problem whatsoever. made a drift from some of that pipebomb pipe with an endcap to strike with a hammer. afterwards it was still leaking...upon closer inspection i noticed my housing extension actually had a crack in it.$37 part at dealership and repeat steps 1-5. done deal. next week: rear main seal. any tips or tricks?(besides don't scratch the crank or bearings)

That's about it! Some folks lower the crank by loosening the caps or taking them off... I never do. It is real tight in there and not an easy job for a first timer. Just keep your wits about you and don't scratch the bearing surface. If there are a lot of miles on the engine I might replace the lower bearings while I was in there.. OR even the pump..

eh, 111,000mi. runs great but leaks everything.the front seal on the pully is seeping also. replacing the lower bearings is just a matter of popping the old ones out of each cap and putting in new ones right?once again, any tips or tricks....there is also a sludge screen on the pump that can be easily replaced correct?

When replacing the lower bearings make sure the bearing-cap area is clean and dry! No oil between them.
The screen is usually a pressure fit. When I remove one I always drill and tap the pump and install a bolt to hold it tight again. Making sure to not introduce filings into the pump. I don't trust second pressure fits.
If you do replace the pump you should PRIME it before startup.
