I got a 2000 toyota 4runner V6, The check engine light would occassionally comes on then off and its been like that for a year now. I took it to a toyota dealership and had it diagnosed and they say, its the mass air flow meter,my truck runs fine,I know this is a problem that need to be fixed but its too costly to get it replaced and somebody told me that the maf meter can be cleaned up and doesnt have to be replaced.Would it start stalling or die on me while im driving the truck if the maf meter arent replaced ASAP?

i had the same problem. Every time, i would do a throttle body cleaning and it would fix the problem. I have a K&N air filter and the oils from the filter would coat Mass Air Flow sensor and would cause my 4Runner to have poor acceleration and other minor issues. I never had problems with is starting b/c of this.

Once you do a throttle body cleaning (do a search on this forum to find the documentation) pull your EFI fuse under your hood (behind your battery) and that will reset your check engine light. Your 4 runner will run a little hesitation for a few miles while the computer resets but will return to normal.

With the right tools, you can do a throttle body cleaning in about 45 minutes. All you need is a ratchet, extension, 12 or 14 mm socket, and a Phillips screwdriver.

Clean it ASAP!

good luck!

Thanks for the advice. How often do you clean the throttle body?I had mine done last year when i had the TPS replaced and i also clean the MAF sensor with an electrical cleaner and reset the computer, The check engine light is gone and i hope it stay that way, maybe the cleaning did the trick but its only been a day so far, keeping my finger cross but anyways thanks for the tips.
