Rather new to this so pros I need your help...How do I tell if my 89 Dodge Raider 2dr has Limited Slip Differntials? The owners manual is not specific nor do any of the plates on the rig help me out. I am about to change gear oil and need to know if I put in the LSD additive. Thanks for the help!!

Most will have an orange sticker in the door jam telling you. If not you can lift up both rear tires at the same time. Turn one tire by hand, if the opposite side goes the same direction, it has a LSD. If opposite tire goes opposite way, it is an open diff. Be careful when lifting the truck, the transmission has to be in Neutral to do this. DOnt run over yourself.

Just about to change the fluid in my LSD as well when i noted in the Haynes/Chilton manual they too mentioned an additive. Wasn't mentioned in the FSM though.

I haven't been to a AutoZone/PepBoys yet specifically looking for LSD additive, but in getting the 80/90w gear oil for the front axle and transfer case, I don't recall seeing a LSD additive. Is this a special dealer item? or unique to 4x4 shops?

Some diff oils are LSD compatable, read the back. Most of your parts stores will have an additive. The ones I have seen come in smaller tubes, not big like the diff oil itself.

The cover on my 85 still has the sticker on it that tells you to make sure you use the additive. I;ll see if I can get a picture of it.

My FSM does not mention an additive. The Redline diff oil I use is LS compatable and I have never needed any additive. I don't think it will hurt though, but not sure why you would need it unless there are operational signs. I will say that the addition of LS additive to the tranfer case makes a world of difference to its operation, especially in cold weather. The FSM does not say to use an additive there either. I have used GM additive in the transfer case and just recently used off the shelf Advance Auto product, can't remember the brand. I used a length of clear vinyl hose pushed on the end of the tube to get it in the transfer case. A little pre-drain to make room also made it easier.

The lsd oil mitsu stuff has an lsd additive.

So I asked my father to pick-up some of this LSD 8149630 EX hypoid oil today while he's out on jobs.

He calls me just a few minutes ago to tell me that the local Mitsu dealer doesn't stock it at all, that they could order it, but they'd just order it from the local ValueAuto parts dealer - go figure.

So he calls me after stopping there and apparently they give him regular 80/90w gear oil with some of the additive.

I don't think this is right. Does the additive make regular 80/90w into the hypoid 8149630 EX? I thought it needs to be 8149630 EX AND additive if you wanted too. But the essential thing was to use the 8149630 EX - not regular 80/90w back there. Right?

So if the dealer hasn't got 8149630 EX where is this stuff? Funny even Autozone mentions it in their how-to section of their website. But not a peep if they actually carry it.
