Body Damage is Cool
I am going to be having some questions once I am under way on my project, a 4D56T into a 2wd Ram 50.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
There is a guy in Utah that can get harmonic balancers, I found him when looking for a ranger harmonic. Which is harder to find.

Roll Me Over
Well, I'm back to work on the Montero Diesel Swap from a Ranger. I stopped by a yard today to pick up a skid plate, power steering reservoir and another bouncy seat but only scored the bouncy seat and another spare hazard switch. While my son worked on pulling the front seats and installing the dual bouncy seats, I worked on loosening the oil pan bolts and checked orientation of the Montero oil pan I'll be using on the engine.

[Linked Image]

Here's a tilted pic of the 4d55 showing the Ford Ranger pan orientation and oil pan bolts.

[Linked Image]

Here's a pic of the front of the engine. The red arrow indicates a broken fan pulley bolt I'll need to take care of. I have some spare bolts I picked up off of fleabay along with a complete set of oil pan bolts.

[Linked Image]

Here's a pic of the Montero oil pan and the Felpro heavy paper gasket I purchased for installing the oil pan. Any pointers on the best way to seal the pan? I'm thinking of smearing some clear RTV on both sides of the gasket before installing the pan. Should I do this or just leave it dry?

[Linked Image]

Here's a shot of the rear of the engine. I need to clean up the caked-on oil and will be replacing the valve cover gasket, valve cover bolt grommets and the rear main seal before installing the engine in the Montero.

Here's a pic of the turbo side of the engine. Both of the oil cooler lines are loose and leaking badly. The whole side of the engine is caked with oily dirt. After cleaning it up, I'm either going to remove the oil cooler lines and plug the holes with correct-sized bolts or fix the leaks and run an oil cooler.

I've still got a bunch to do to the engine to get it ready to drop in.

I was just reading back through the thread to refresh my memory on previous research and realized that I never went back and posted the oil pan gasket part number. (it wouldn't let me edit old posts) Here you go:

2.3 Oil Pan Gasket - NAPA OS30400 A
This is also the standard Felpro part number

I found directions on the back stating that I should apply "adhesive" to the mating surfaces of the gasket. I assumed that was the case. I'll be smearing clear RTV on both sides after everything is scraped clean and wiped with acetone.

Does anyone know where I can source a bottom skid plate for a Montero? Most of the junkyard vehicles are mssing the skid plate so far.

I have em, I have the front and t case. I can get my wife to find out about shipping as I am in Calgary right now. Make me an offer plus shipping and they are yours. I'm going custom on my next project.

Good to see you back Powell. As for this mysterious "Macka" character, you already know him - are you sure you wanna run "Pig" parts on your Montero?

Actually Phil, they aren't PIG parts. They are from the dump in Terrace Bay, where a badly rusted blown engine SWB was sitting. I recovered them and was going to try to find another decent SWB to make into PIG2. Now I think I will have to go another route, starting with a LWB genI donor body a diesel gen3 front cut and of course a sawzall and a MIG. Seeing Erics rig really got my thinking cap heated up.

Thanks folks! It's good to be back. Macka, let me check two local sources and if they don't pan out, I'll shoot you a PM.
