Where are we at with this swap? Hold on to those Ranger Flywheels, they are really rare. I have been searching high and low for a Ranger flywheel for days, but I think I found one in Georgia.

Funny you should ask this week! I had to put it down for a few months due to extreme heat but picked it back up today. I took the Ranger flywheel, Montero flywheel, a brand new Montero clutch kit and new Ranger clutch kit to the machine shop to get the Ranger flywheel drilled for the Montero clutch and the pilot bearing pressed. It should be ready by next weekend.

I need to change the rear main seal on the engine and get the power steering hose fabricated. That should wrap up the fabrication pieces and I can drop the motor in.

Actually, I still need to sort out the accelerator cable. I may end up getting some fabrication done to the Montero bracket and connector on the cable to fit the throttle on the injection pump.

I am in desperate need of that ranger flywheel you willing to make a trade for a Mitsubishi 4d55 flywheel?

I picked up the drilled Ranger flywheel fitted to the Montero 2.6 Gas clutch today. Here are the pics of it assembled for test fit. (including Montero throwout bearing to the right)


I had a new Ranger pilot bearing pressed into the flywheel as well. This is ready to go on the crankshaft so I can drop the engine in!

I'm going to change the rear main seal and get the power steering hose sorted out and then it will be time to drop it in and crank it up!

I have a brand new 4D56 crate motor on the way and wi <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I have some vacation starting next week through the end of the year. I'm hoping to finish the motor and get it in the truck if it's not too cold to turn a wrench!
