' I had never rebuilt a manual transmission until I replaced the synchro's in a 91 YJ. It was an AX-15. I was able to do it with nothing more than an exploded diagram and a digital camera. A decent press is required, other than that no special tools. I now have a Factory service manual that completely covers the AX-15 and AX-5 (if you have a 4-cyl) and I highly recommend you get one for the very detailed instructions they contain. The only problem is there are so many details it can be intimidating when you read it, But if you do as BJ says and just do the basics, it's not that big a deal. Keep the work area very clean and all parts laid out in order, pictures at all stages of disassembly from multiple angles can be a very big help. Good luck!
