I am not sure about the SOHC 24V. I have not been in a 3.0 Sohc 24valve engine, I do have three 3.0 DOHC ones, they will crash.
When I bought my 6G75 3.8 L engine. I removed the heads to do the DOHC swap, all the valves are closed, now it has been sitting for 1/2 year before it was shipped to me so I do not know how long it takes for the lifters to drain down and I can not tell how far open the valves are just after shutdown. The pistons do not have large valve reliefs in them.

I am not sure if My DOHC conversion on the 3.8 will make it a much better engine but from the changes in the ports as well as the different timing of the 3000gt cams I used it should have a substantial increase in mid range power.
