The Transmissions are the same except for the output shaft. The tail housing is simply discarded for 4x4 use. I have swapped a couple of shafts and it requires major disassembly of the transmission. if you are not comfortable with rebuilding an automatic transmission, don't try it. You should be able to find all the parts you need for the conversion in one vehicle. I'd recommend trying to find an entire vehicle, intact, with perhaps a badly rusted frame/body you can buy for $1000 bucks or less, then you will have everything you need and then some.
