2WD vs 4WD flywheels, is there a difference or are they the same and interchangeable?

They are interchangeable but I believe the 4wd might be heavier.

America's first fourwheel drive was built in Mankato, MN by Ernest Rosenburger in 1908 who founded Four-Traction Auto Co. on Hickory Street. The company though successful closed in 1913.

79-91 20/22R/RE flywheels are the same and in 92 the 22RE switched to the 22RTE sized 9 5/16" flywheel increasing in size from 8 7/8".

I'm running a '95 flywheel on the back of my '86 motor. Paid $35 for it at a local boneyard. I got it so I could get the bigger clutch while I was upgrading to the R151F tranny. I've pulled a trailer a lot the last year or so, and it's working fine. All my 22R and RE 4WD flywheels seem to weigh 25lbs. -- Matt

The 9-5/16" flywheel found on the '86 -'88 22RTE (turbo) engines and the '93 - '95 22RE's is a straight swap onto any 22R -RE. It's only slightly bigger than the flywheel you've already got, which is 8-7/8", but if you need a new clutch it's worth doing. -- Matt
