you can save yourself a lot of mess with the tranny if you just drain out through the plug the 3 qts of fluid each time you do an oil change. Pulling the pan is a messy pain and it is not unusual for the steel bolts to strip out in the aluminum housing. After about 4 or 5 oil changes you have essentially new fluid....Do that every 25K or so and you are all set w/o themess and potential probs.
