but, i've looked into doing a sas myself, and the minimum you're going to spend is about $2,500.

Where'd you get that number?? The trail-gear kit is $1100. I got my axle for $200. Can make a square driveshaft for <100 or get a custom one for about ~300. Thats ~$1400-$1600 with more than you need. Of course that price goes up substantially if you can't weld.

my SAS cost me just under 2 grand all together. including a different pitman arm, bumpstops and a few other small changes to the way the kit was intended. $1500 is do-able IF you can weld it yourself.

one of the main reason's for the price differences is the addition of the rear lift, which i would of had to buy. but going by marlin's prices i figured,

$1549 for the kit, including shipping
$699 for the rear lift, including shipping
~$250 for the driveshaft
~$250 for the axle-

that's already at $2748. plus the axle will probably need to be rebuilt which is ~$150 including wheel bearings. of course you could do it for a little cheaper w/ blocks and etc. for the rear, but i sure wouldn't if i'm dropping that kind of money.

w/ trail gear's kit, you save about $350 but your still at ~$2500 if you rebuild the front axle.

Yup, don't forget the rear, that's another $700 for the TG rear leaf conversion or All pro links. Depending on how your DS angles you might need a CV rear DS.

I've got about $4000 into mine, but that includes a front high pinion elocker.

If you have to ask about a SAS, you're not ready for it.

Pretty funny how people forget about the rear, driveshafts, gears and tires when talking about doing an SAS. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Need a Spot
the tg kit comes with front axle renew kit w/ bearings. i also have 4.88 gears set up in 2 8" houseings. already have some 35's. i have had a miller 250x for years and know how to use it well. i also have 6" springs (all 4) i got with my front axle and the drive shafts. so other than that all i need is the kit. i think??? i was also thinking, screw the kit and just get the shackle mount jig and tubes, double stack the passenger side knuckle and make my own crossover steering and front hanger. i dont need hy-steer, aint no rocks in jersey. anybody ever done it without the kit?

I am running 4" springs, 1" BL cut fenders and the front wheels wells tubbed. I am running 36 x 13.50 IROKS with no rub.

You do not want/need a 3" BL your CG is going to be too high and it will be very tipsy on the trails. Moreover, a BL that high is hard on the body mounts and they will eventually fair. Why, a thing called leverage.
