Stock rear cross member suitable for shock mounts? #792801 02/26/07 03:10 PM

I'm going to be redoing the rear shocks pretty soon, and I'm planning on angling them towards the center. I've seen people build a new cross member, but I'm wondering if the stock round tube cross member is strong enough. I think I can build something to mount the shocks in double shear.

Anyone tried this?

I'd give it a go... I think it will hold. I ended up adding my own out of 2x2 because I wanted to raise things up a bit higher.

(for those wondering, he's talking about the round bar pictured below my inserted crossmember).

Thanks Rob <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I figured it would be strong enough, and it's already there.

I know of someone who has done this with no problems to date. If you want you can just beef it up with some angle iron or something where you mount the shocks.
