You know, if somebody could wave a magic wand and vanish ALL guns EVERYWHERE, I could live with that. But that genie is out of the bottle and there ain't no going back.

This is a bad idea. Even if you could wave a magic wand and all the guns vanish, I wouldn't go for it. What can stop a 250 lb man from raping a 90 lb woman? What can stop my 300 lb ex-convict neighbor from kicking my 160 lb butt and taking whatever he wants? What can prevent politicians from burning the Constitution and making you a slave to the state?

Our Founding Fathers made gun ownership a right because arms in the hands of private citizens had just allowed them to free themselves from Great Britain. There is NO reason to give up guns while humans run governments.

>>>*One thing I know about, it is an insecure feeling being shot at.

The first reaction is to try to hide, get as small as possible, the 2nd reaction is just plain mad.

I see nothing wrong with people owning firearms for sport.

But the one reason I see for public ownership of firearms is one day it just may fall on the citizens to protect this Nation.

As past events and now recent have shown, it becomes a very difficult task to take over and overwhelm an armed population.

If anyone were to try it here, just think of what happens when they run into some mad farmers with shotguns.

It would be nice for there to be no other reason than sport, but for that to happen, we would need to eliminate the criminal element, or those that thirst for power.

I doubt I shall live to see such a utopia, so my home is armed. I think I have fired off perhaps 2 dozens shots in the last decade, and that was at beer cans. I didn't miss, either.

But I will keep my firearms just in case.

x2.....I just want to add that much of the crime committed, are by aliens (illegal and legal). Some cultures are based on an illigitamate hussle instead of working an honest 40hrs a week. We are just letting these people in ,giving them interest free business loans and giving our country away.

I have seen the attitude of many immigrants. I'm going out on a limb here to say I think MOST are taking advantage of our resources with NO loyalty to the US.

When it comes to illegalas and espeically "loyalty", the people we should be angry at are the American business-people that "take advantage" of the illegals and hire then at a lower than normal wage or pay under the table. They are the ones that encourage them to come here in the first place and not only does business take advantage of illegals, they take advantage of the rest of us, as we're paying the taxes and supplementing the low wages and lack of healthcare through higher taxes, higher insurance premiums, higher crime and the lack of jobs for legal Americans.

Corporate profits in AMerican are at an all time high right now. It's not because Corporate America is more effecient at doing business and more competative. It's because they are having their products made overseas in places like China for pennies while turning a profit at a very high margin. And many companies are able to employee illegals for much less or get more work out of them than normal and are making the record margins that way.

If you want to talk about disloyality....there you go.

The really sad part is the it won't be long...probably less than a single generation....when borders won't even exist anymore and The United States will be nothing more than state itself in a much larger union. That's our future and there's nobody out there stopping it.

I have way too many comments to this thread, but I'll only add a few since I'm madly searching for 4x4 stuff

1. Laws are made to protect idiots from themselves. If everyone in this country were intelligent, there would be no need for any more laws than the Bill of Rights provides.

2. As the saying goes (and may have already been stated) "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

3. If guns are outlawed, then knives would be outlawed after that, then bats, then golf club, and so on. People are going to kill people- it doesn't matter if they have a gun or not.

4. Guns were (and are) in the Bill of Rights to protect ourselves not only from criminals, but from the government so that there may be a well-formed militia....Unfortunately any attempt at a militia now is considered a cult. The National Guard is theoretically our country's militia, but for some reason they get sent overseas quicker than active duty soldiers. Pretty soon there won't be enough soldiers here to take care of our own soil.

Which leads me to my long story made shorter. Back in November I arrived at a "friend's" house only to be met by another "friend" before I could get my door all the way open and got jumped. Because of how it happened, my physical conditions and medications- I did not have the power to fight back. The altercation continued standing up for just about a minute maybe (it gets all fuzzy when you're getting beat up) before he had me on the ground. Now- I have, and can take a beating. Been there, done that.
But he persisted to punch me until he busted my ear drum, gave me a black eye that lasted a month and started choking me. He got off of me twice- the second time I clearly told him that if he jumped on me again I'd shoot him. By then I clearly felt that my life was in danger.
But- he either didn't believe me or something and jumped on me while I was trying to get up on my hands and knees. Basically I was to the point of being beaten or choked to death or taking action. I chose to take action.

I had a revolver in my pants and in order to not miss, I stuck a .357mag directly to his leg and fired.

Needless to say he got off me after that.
In fact, I don't think he's regained the ability to walk again yet, but I don't know; nor do I want to know his affairs.

What really surprised me is what happened afterwards with the law enforcement. I told them I felt the need to go to the hospital- though they were still treating me as the villain at this point (can't blame 'em- it was dark and they couldn't really see) After getting to the hospital and telling them what happened- they were more than sympathetic to me.
I was detained up until they let me out of the hospital hours later and taken home. I never once went to a police station or charged with anything. They did, as is usual protocol- keep my gun.
I've heard once something like this happens you have almost no chance of getting the gun back, but I did about 2 months later. Of course I had to be in charge of it myself, but didn't get the runaround.
The Sheriff's Department really surprised me with their actions and how nice they were and the fact that there was no bureacracy(sp?) involved. Oh, by the way, here's what I looked like and why I did what I did-
[Linked Image]
I actually looked 3x worse the next day.

But anyways, I thank my lucky stars I just so happened to have borrowed that handgun that night. And as God is my witness I'll be buying one along with a concealed carry permit just as soon as I'm financially able.

12. The 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, refers to the National Guard, which was created 130 years later, in 1917.

13. The National Guard, federally funded, with bases on federal land, using federally-owned weapons, vehicles, buildings and uniforms, punishing trespassers under federal law, is a "state" militia.

hmmm....
The National Guard, the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the nation's longest enduring institutions, [color:"red"]celebrated its 366th birthday in 2002. The National Guard traces its history back to the earliest English colonies in North America. Responsible for their own defense, the colonists drew on English military tradition and organized their able-bodied male citizens into militias.

Today's National Guard continues its historic dual mission, [color:"red"]providing the states with units trained and equipped to protect life and property, while providing the nation with units ready to defend the United States and its interests around the world.

The DOB on this makes Dubya just 2 barely two months old when he was arrested for said DUI...I didn't know he was a Kennedy...and it puts him at just barely a month older than me...and I'm 30.

Thanks

There was a split second where I considered where to aim, but I was at the point of blacking out so I may have hit myself too. Plus for some instinctive reasoning I still thought of this person as someone I thought had been my friend for about 4 years or more.
And in hindsight I'm glad I didn't because if I had wounded him more seriously or killed him it would've laid on my conscience to no end. I know what I did was right and I don't regret it, but I'm still having to take xanax to this day for PTSD.
One day when I'm able to tell my story in full without getting too emotional about it I'll be writing Guns and Ammo, the NRA as well as my local representatives.

Like you said- I'm lucky to be here typing this- and if it weren't for the gun I had- chances are I wouldn't be.
