I have way too many comments to this thread, but I'll only add a few since I'm madly searching for 4x4 stuff <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
1. Laws are made to protect idiots from themselves. If everyone in this country were intelligent, there would be no need for any more laws than the Bill of Rights provides.
2. As the saying goes (and may have already been stated) "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."
3. If guns are outlawed, then knives would be outlawed after that, then bats, then golf club, and so on. People are going to kill people- it doesn't matter if they have a gun or not.
4. Guns were (and are) in the Bill of Rights to protect ourselves not only from criminals, but from the government so that there may be a well-formed militia....Unfortunately any attempt at a militia now is considered a cult. The National Guard is theoretically our country's militia, but for some reason they get sent overseas quicker than active duty soldiers. Pretty soon there won't be enough soldiers here to take care of our own soil.
Which leads me to my long story made shorter. Back in November I arrived at a "friend's" house only to be met by another "friend" before I could get my door all the way open and got jumped. Because of how it happened, my physical conditions and medications- I did not have the power to fight back. The altercation continued standing up for just about a minute maybe (it gets all fuzzy when you're getting beat up) before he had me on the ground. Now- I have, and can take a beating. Been there, done that.
But he persisted to punch me until he busted my ear drum, gave me a black eye that lasted a month and started choking me. He got off of me twice- the second time I clearly told him that if he jumped on me again I'd shoot him. By then I clearly felt that my life was in danger.
But- he either didn't believe me or something and jumped on me while I was trying to get up on my hands and knees. Basically I was to the point of being beaten or choked to death or taking action. I chose to take action.
I had a revolver in my pants and in order to not miss, I stuck a .357mag directly to his leg and fired.
Needless to say he got off me after that.
In fact, I don't think he's regained the ability to walk again yet, but I don't know; nor do I want to know his affairs.
What really surprised me is what happened afterwards with the law enforcement. I told them I felt the need to go to the hospital- though they were still treating me as the villain at this point (can't blame 'em- it was dark and they couldn't really see) After getting to the hospital and telling them what happened- they were more than sympathetic to me.
I was detained up until they let me out of the hospital hours later and taken home. I never once went to a police station or charged with anything. They did, as is usual protocol- keep my gun.
I've heard once something like this happens you have almost no chance of getting the gun back, but I did about 2 months later. Of course I had to be in charge of it myself, but didn't get the runaround.
The Sheriff's Department really surprised me with their actions and how nice they were and the fact that there was no bureacracy(sp?) involved. Oh, by the way, here's what I looked like and why I did what I did-

I actually looked 3x worse the next day.
But anyways, I thank my lucky stars I just so happened to have borrowed that handgun that night. And as God is my witness I'll be buying one along with a concealed carry permit just as soon as I'm financially able.
