Well , after a looong night of driving I made it to Calgary.A grand total of 1439 KM and 3 tanks of gas to get there. The majority was used up going through the Rockies and climbing the grades that range from 6-12 percent.Of course I was averaging 70 MPH also , and at least 60 MPH up the hills The trooper ran good , lots of power , and actually not as bad as I thought it would be on fuel.Of course it would have been nice having my GPS working properly and I wouldn't have made a couple of wrong turns. And also I did fix the trans shifter linkage , and the swicth so it does start in neutral now as well as park.
The only problem I ran into was just as I was coming into my hotel. The truck overheated and leaked out a bunch of anti freeze from the overflow.I think my delta controller bit the big one.I tested the fan with the wires right to the battery and worked fine.At first I thought it might have been the rad was plugged with all the road crap.My poor truck is covered in salt and sand , could hardly see out the windows half the time with it flying around up there.Anyway , I am limited to tests I can do so not sure how to test the controller itself.I can't see it being the thermostat as that is new , I just put a new one in during the summer.Maybe 20 hours of straight driving was just too much for the controller.I don't think I have the stuff to wire up a switch either to turn it on and off so its not constant on the battery.
Any ideas what I can do so I can still drive without overheating? Its cold here , and can't crawl under the truck for anything either.

Did the gauge actually show it over heating?
On long trips where you work the engine fairly hard like that, when you pull up and stop, sometimes the coolant gets a flash of heat and now the engine is pumping it through the radiator, it will boil out the over-flow. Doesn't mean anything is wrong.
After a long hard trip, you should always let the engine idle for a minute or two to help get the heat out of it. That will help prevent it from boiling out the over-flow.
It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.

The gauge actually went to full heat , but while I was driving through the mountains it was at 1/4 and the fan never kicked on once.It was only the 2 hours of driving around town trying to find where I take the course , then my hotel.I got turned around just a few times
The rad didn't pop the cap , it just came out the overflow as it has a vent and that is where it came out.I'll see what happens tomorrow and if it starts overheating.Lots of stop and go in the city , so no surprise there. The roads through the pass were pretty much cleared , I only hit a few spots that had a light dusting of snow , so I didn't get to drive it in 4x4.

if it does run hot in the city, and you're in a bind, could you run the fan off the headlight wire on one side? so it comes on when you turn on the headlights?

Well , drove around today and the truck didn't overheat , not sure if the fan control just got too warm and shut off , or the stuff I fooled around with fixed it.Anyway , more driving to go yet.I am glad its not overheating again , I kept a close eye on the guage and it went half way like normal , then the fan kicked in and it was below 1/4.

The Trooper just keeps on troopin. Now gone onto just over 3000 km and no problems other than that one time it overheated. It drives great even in the -20 weather out here.So far I have gone from vancouver island , B.C. , to Calgary , Alberta , Red Deer , Penhold , Leduc , Edmonton , and now fort Saskatchewan.Still a lot of driving to go yet , so hope things keep going like they are.People kind of look funny at me as I go cruising by at 80 miles an hour in a lifted 4x4 with 33" tires on it They probably sit there and go what the heck was that? Anyway , I'll keep updating when I can on how things are going with the truck on this torture test of driving this much.

Are you sure that's not 80km/hr? Oh, I guess you have that nice 3.4l now. So, what kind of mileage did you receive on your trip? Curious.

Not sure the exact numbers , but my first day of the trip I went from campbell river to calgary , alberta , which was 1472 KM , and I used 3 tanks of gas , my cell is 19 gallons. This was at high speeds , average of 100 KM/HR and going up and down steep hills through the rockies.I guess first step would be to convert the KM to miles , then figure out the miles to the gallon. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be , I expected to go through a minimum of 4 tanks to get to calgary. The power with the 3.4 is great

The Trooper is still going strong out here.Have to let it warm up a little in this cold or it stalls if not up to temp right away.I am going to look into getting a heater block as it does get that cold here.I do have the one piece in the block now , but the cord is missing and the prongs are all bent. Not sure if its an isuzu or GM part I need to get.I will try GM seeing its a GM engine.I just hope they don't expect a huge amount for this little part and cord.
I still haven't had to use 4x yet , it hasn't snowed a huge amount since I have been here , but I am ready for when it does.

Another 500 KM of driving today and found out a couple of things. With the 33" tires , my odometer is out exactly 1/10 of a kilometer. So , for every 100 KM I do , my odometer tells me I did 90.Also , I get 416 KM to a tank of gas , at 125 KM/HR.So , a KM =2.2 miles. My tank is 19 gallons , so if anyone good at math wants to figure it out for mileage , feel free Also I found out I have a nail in my front tire. Not enough to puncture it , just enough to stick in.Other than that , its running like a champ out here.
