If mudding is your goal you would be better off money wise to buy a full size rig and build it to mud. The cost of the 3.4 swap alone should cover cost of a SA rig with a V-8 and lifting it. The $3500 spent on the SAS'ing/lifting/gearing the Runner, will cover gears, lockers, motor upgrades, etc., for the full size. The 44's will be easier to clear on the full size since you can cut away a lot of sheet metal. This way you will have a truck to beat on, and when it is broken you will still have something clean to get around in.
I would sat what you are planing to do to your Runner is going to run you somewher close to $10k, you can have a hell of a built fullsize beatre for that much money. The 3.4 with 4.88's is going to have a hell of time turning 44's, especially if it is an auto, and going to larger ring gears is only going to increase your chances(actually garaunteeing) of breaking ring gears.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

i figure i can go for larger tires and i also love to brag so im goin with 44"s... Seriously, that's not what most of us are about here. Most of our trucks are designed to be functional off road, yet safe on the road and are reasonable builds. It sounds like you're more concerned about impressing your friend down at the local high school, than building a decent rig. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I'm getting. No offense intended. We're a real friendly group here, but I guarantee on almost any other board, there would be a flame fest right now.

I agree. Shoot we all like the big tires, but on a toyota thers a limit. I will be exceeding the limit with my plans. i plan to run 38.5x15x15 boggers on 15x8 rims. Thats a big tire for a little truck, but i dont beat it in rocks and im more of a trail and mud wheeler. I dont reccomend 44's. On a fullsize you need about 12" to clear 44's

The 4runner is a bit of a heavier rig than the pickup my neighbor had. Don't expect to find a kit off the shelf to be able to fit those 44s. The guy he bought it from fabbed up a sub frame for the truck and it worked VERY well in the mud. Don't be bothered by the nay sayers, different terrain requires different equipment. I'm not sure what gears he had in the axles, but 2nd gear low range was the magic number for the 22r he had pushing it. ![[Linked Image]](http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55/grandeyota/blkyota_web.jpg) You will have broken parts, so plan accordingly.

but wont it ride like hell It sure will. Riding in that black truck was like going down a fire road when you were on smooth pavement. You didn't think 40"+ tires made it ride like grannys cadillac did ya?
