Body Damage is Cool

The 2001 and 2002 XLS came with open difs front and rear, if you got the XLS w/Touring Package or the Limited you got the Mech LSD half of the Hybrid LSD/Locker that was available in the rest of the world. 2003 and later is definatly the way to go, having owned both I can tell you that the TC is very cool, and driving the 2002 with out was sometimes interesting especially with that touchy LSD is the 01-02 LSD in the rear only? anything in the front on a limited? Is the TC on the 03 and up for the front and rear? or how does it work? Thanks!

Yes as far as I know the rear is the only axle with the LSD. (someone correct me if I am wrong) and the TC is for all 4 wheels...it senses wheel speed and slip and then applies braking to the slipping wheels which in turn sends torque to the opposite side wheel that has traction....Works off the ABS system which is why it tends to overheat once in a while

Sorry, only in the Rear for the LSD on the 2001/2002, but the TC on the 2003 is all four wheels!
Very Cool Stuff. Uses the ABS system to apply the brakes on a wheel with no traction so the power goes to the other wheel thru the open diff, basically.
Takes a little getting used too though.

I have an '02 Limited and can tell you that it also has the ABS traction control... I verified it on ice the other day! Also, the limited gives you a 5 gear automatic with the tiptronic system, which is VERY nice. Great vehicle - I just wish it had a V8 so I could tow big stuff with it.

I love my '03 Gen III. The 03 has "stability control" which includes traction control. The prior years might have had "traction control" which is a less sophisticated animal.
The drive line and suspension is different from '03 on. The early models had a problem with a "clunking" rear end. Of course, the 3.8L vs the 3.5 on the earlier models. Other than that, not much difference.
