Howdy All,

I blew one of my fusible links jumping the old trooper (I left the key on when taking out a CD and it froze overnight, shorting it). I took a link out of the Trail Trooper to go to work. When I went to the parts store they said they didn't have any wire that big. They also didn't have any connectors that size. It is the main Fusible Link in the little black box in front of the battery. Anyone know where to get them? Do I just make a new one with some 12 ga wire?

Do I shove a paper clip in there?

Any help is most appreciated.

While just using regular wire will work, I wouldn't recommend it. Fusible links are more heavily insulated to that when they go, they have less of a chance of burning through the insulation and causing a bigger problem. I can't say for sure, but I'm willing to bet that it's just 14ga fusible link wire. ANY auto parts (at least that are worth anything) should have that. You gotta remember that the wire you have right now might look like 12ga wire, but it's also got an extra thick jacket on it, so it's probably 14ga or maybe even 16ga.

I know you're just joking on this, but paper clip is a BIG no no. That'd just be begging for an electrical fire.

Actually the wire that was in there looked to be factory, though it may not be, but it didn't say fusible link on it, just 12ga. The one in the trail trooper actually said 12ga fusible link. They both had connectors that were spot welded on-which made me think they may be factory.

Napa didn't have anything close. He told me to go to the non existent dealer.
