Getting the Wheeling Fever
i'm tring to install a hayden electriic fan on my 93 p/u. i can't seem to figure out how to hook up the automatic control. i hook the red (power) wire to bat. the black (ground) to ground, the orange(To motor) to the fan,the yellow (ign switch controlled power) to the cig fuse, the green (a/c override) to the cluth relay. i spliced in a overide switch ( one side to the bat and one the fused wire out of the contorler) to the orange wire before the fuse that came with the controler. i checked the overide switch and it works. but i'm shorting to ground some where. the fuse for the cig that i hooked the yellow wire to blew and the hood latch spring was smoking. any help would be appreciated. the fan is ground is hooked up too

Where is the fan ground connected to?
Also, you might try just hooking up a few wires at a time, just power and ground first and get the basic fan function working, then add one extra wire at a time. I wrote up a little page on how I set up my Flex-a-lite fan controller:

both fan ground and controller ground hooked to fender by fuse box. the grounds are good.

If you spliced in an overide switch then you are supplying power back throught the ignition part of the circuit. If you are splicing into the ignition power control for the fan you should also be disconnecting the wire that goes to the ignition source. You can do that with a SPDT switch. Put the fan control wire on the center pole, one side to ignition power, and the other to battery power (fused). Keep in mind, the fan will still only run when the fan T-stat tells it to. I wired my Black Magic fan to 12v all the time so it still runs after I turn off the truck. In hot summer weather, it will come on 2 or 3 times in 30 minutes after I park the truck. I never run in deep water, so I have no reason to kill the fan on command.

i spliced overide switch directly linked to the battery and it would ground through fans motor ground bypassing the controller completly. I checked that the a/c clutch was sending power to the controller. it checks good and i also changed power sources to a constant 12 volt source(domefuse). the controller still did not kick the fan on when the a/c was engaged. i'm suspecting the relay on the controller is not fuctioning correctly. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
