88 4runner 22RE lacking power, I suspect cat converter???
any ideas ? Is there such thing as an aftermarket cat that outperforms stock without affecting O2 sensor ? I'm not really concerned about emissions, just want my power back!
Help!!

When's the last time you did a full tuneup and check the TPS setup?

have recent tune-up, fuel filter,PCV, valve adjustment, air filter, etc. helped a little but still lacking thus my suspecting exhaust issue,it's pretty new from cat back. Will it run w/o cat and NOT create O2 sensor performance probs ?

mine is carburated and it is fine w/o the cat ,I'm not sure about efi.It can be done but you might have to make some modifications.I think tps is throttle position sensor, but you better check with one of the efi guys to be sure.search the cat topic on here Im sure there has been a thread on it.

I've never had trouble removing cat from carbed vehicles but sometime creates issues with fuel injected, since I am new to toys, figured I'd be better off asking before I experiment.
Where did you get your hi/flow cat ???

Had a similar problem with 87 22re. Did all the tuneup etc then took the cat off and noticed it was all plugged up with carbon. Left the cat off and installed a cherry bomb. What a difference. After all this I still noticed it running rich. Did a TPS and timing adjustment. It even got better.
