My friend Andrew drove down from San Jose just for Saturday.

Started off well...

[Linked Image]

Oh yeah, wooooo-hoooo...

[Linked Image]

But then he tried to help out a non-4x4Wire dude in a steep ditch by connecting two straps with a D-ring. It was Andrew's nice recovery strap in combination with the dude's tow strap. Well the tow strap broke and sent the D-ring shooting towards the back of Andrew's truck cab, broke through the glass, slid across the back of his head rest, and then proceeded to hit the back of his head/neck leaving a huge welt as well as some pain.

Broken bits of glass covered his entire truck interior, from back seat to front dash. Lucky the situation wasn't worse!

Lesson -- Watch those cheap/old tow straps !!!

The Real Lesson is not to use a D ring to connect two straps together.Use the loops to connect.

That strap situation could have been worse. He was lucky it hit the seat first.

Ahhh... finally a quick break where I can post up the pics but sorry no time to do my recap of the trip yet. Will try to get to in the next day or so. Will include detailed flight info as well as breakage, and recoveries...

Poor guy's trike broke down. I tried strapping him over the dunes back to camp but bogged down on one of the hills. Even Cap510 wasn't able to get him moving and simply dug down into the sand. Finally Justice winched them both up and then everyone pushed his trike the rest of the way up. After a few minutes of thinking about how to get it back to camp we decided to load it up into the yellow Ford Ranger pickup (sorry I forget your name... old age does that to ya. and simply carry him back to camp instead. Afterwards we had a great lunch at a mexican place just at the corner of Pier Ave & Highway 1.

Sunday...
Besides all the wonderful jumps and airborne activity, here's one of the highlight's of my weekend. My $1500 monty strapping this $85k technologically superior LR3! His wife told him he had the wrong kind of tires for the sand. He should have listened. I did chime in that at least he was willing to take his LR off road and not just be a posseur (sp?)

This poor guy took it out saturday night and was a admittedly drunk when he did so. Towing cost 3 benjamins plus the priceless humiliation of all the spectators. The tow truck was massive running on what must have been 44's or larger tires. Said Tonka on the side

While we watched the Tonka Ghostraider (aka Kris) played in the sand.
