Been reading some post on here about this engine and it was posted that it is upgradable to a 3.4 v6, how tuff is it and is it worth it? My 91 is using some oil and the oil pressue has been dropping so I have added a heavier weight oil to compensate. I love the truck but have been thinking about getting it rebuilt or buying a rebuilt motor online for around 1800; what are your thoughts?

Welcome to the board; nuther new gent asked the very same q, so here's your answers, so you can get a feel for the site

It's not entirely a plug-n-play; for $1800, you could go either way with the rebuild or the swap. Key is getting a sound donor.

I think Kutter still might have his 3.0 laying around too; your other option.

Thanks for the links.
Is the low oil pressure at idle something I should worry about or is it common for the oil pump or sending unit to go bad.

I don't know the idle spec for the 3.0 off the top of my head; we've got an FSM sticky'd here for a 93 that should give you the numbers. A compression check and a leakdown check wouldn't hurt either before you go arbitrarily throwing parts at it.

i think thats a little low. when i put my perma cool remote filter on, i thought i was having problems. i checked the recomended pressure readings on our mitchell computer system at school, and it suggested anywhere from 6-10 psi at idle. i dont think its so low it'll hurt anything, but thats just me.
