We think you did well in NOT getting the 3.0 in this year. SR5 trivia The 3rd gen trucks you mention have a nice body style, but offered both the 22RE and the 3.0. Last year for carbies was '87 (22R). Nav around in the Toyota Section and the FAQ above in your header; lots of goodies here. Yeah, update your profile if ya want to stick around while you go thru your rig.

The '89 to '95 body style is just a tiny bit bigger and overall nicer looking (to some) and the xtra cabs actually had seats in the back. Just curious, does yours have the 22re or v6? Wish I had the V6, but I have the 22re. I still hear that is probably one of the best engines in a toyota.. I want the V6 because I plan on running larger tires.. Maybe I will change the cam or something one day..

I think you find, after readin garound here awhile, that the V6 doesn o treally provide much more power than the 4cyl. Besides, if yo uwant bigger tires (as we all do!), a more powerful engine dosn't really buy you much anyway. What makes ore of a difference is regearing the axles so that the RPMs are better matched for those bigger meats. This is in fact a better investment than a cam (athough much more pricy).

If running bigger tires with a 22RE, you REGEAR. You'll love it. Check out Zuk's website www.gearinstalls.com

The 89-95's are actually a lot more roomier inside than the '84-'88 trucks are. Having both at the same time you can really see the difference.

Not exactly, once again have two of the same trucks one w/3.0, and the other 22re. My '90 3.0 will run circles around my '91 22re, granted I have a mod'd 3.0 and a strock 22re, but the '90 3.0 weighs 1400lbs less than the '91. drewdaddy You can build a reliable 22re to get power close to the 3.0 stock power #'s. However as mentioned regearing for the tires you are running is the best bet. You will never see the comlete benefits of your engine upgrades w/o matching the gears to the tires. Don't kick yourself for not getting the 3.0, they average about 3-5 miles less per gallon than the 22r's do.

"Last year for carbies was '87 (22R). "
Just to clarify and you probably know this Kewl, but the last year for 4x4 22r was 87, and the the last year for 2wd 22r was 93 I think.

I'll always prefer the 2nd gen pickup... come on... back to the future, need not say more. it'll always be my fav mini truck... i want to build a bttf truck in a few years.... I know what you mean about the BTTF truck. After I totaled my '82 in '90 I was in need of a new truck for work, not the Celica that I had intended on buying. I went looking for the 2nd gen style since I really didn't care much for the softer look of the 3rd gens, not to mention the price for a new 3rd gen in 4x4 and an X-cab was around $21k(over $32k today). However when the dealer I negotiated a new Celica from said I could have my '90 X-cab for the same price of $15k, (only about $3k more than a used 2nd gen), the 3rd gen styling was nolonger an issue. After having the '90 X-cab for 17 yrs now and after rebuilding/driving several 2nd gens, I am glad I bought the '90. The 3rd gen styling has held up well over the years, and still looks better than the Taco's and their funky fenders. Useless radio spot? Not for me, but i have long arms...
I sat shotty in my buddies 90' pickup and the seat goes back WAY farther than my 89 4runner, but it might be a pickup thing. The trucks do have more leg room than the Runners, not just betyween 3rd gen truck and 1st gen Runner, but between same body styled Truck and Runner. The 2nd gen X-cab I am rebuilding has more leg room than the '86 Runner I rebuilt 2yrs ago, and my '90 has more leg room than my Sisters's '95 Runner had. Had Toyota used the long wheel base frame for the Runners rather than the std. frame, the leg room would have been so diferent.
