I have done some research and see a lot of different answers to this question. I am going to purchase new tires and would really like to move up from the weak 225/75/15. I have not done the lift and still have the stock rims. I am planning on doing the lift later on, but for now it is on hold. My truck is a 89 SWB 2.6 liter. I do drive this vehicle about 50 miles a day, but do go into the woods some also. No real mudding, not until I get me another vehicle.

Roll Me Over
Hi,

31x10.5x15 will fit on the stock rims comfortably. I ran them both on SWB and LWB 3.0 V6 Gen I trucks but I haven't had any experience with the 2.6 with this size tire. However, that is what I will be running on my '87 Montero SWB but it will have the 2.3 turbo diesel in it.

Thanks for the info. Do you have yours lifted?

Dan no lift is necessary for 31's. I run 32's on a 15x8" rim with a neutral offset and that's w/out any lift... it did shave 1/32-1/8" off the end of the rubber bumper cap automagically though.

Keep in mind mine is the 3.0L v6 so your performance (not fit) may vary.

I think the stock rim is a 15x6 and I would just worry about scrubbing when you turn. It would look a lot better with 31's than with those 225's.

I moved from 215's -> 235's -> 31x10.5's . I will say the 31's look much better than the previous 2.

I'm running 33's on my 87 Raider. I trimmed the inside front of the wheel well with a sawsall pretty judiciously and let the tires take care of the bumper end. This is my daily driver with a minimum 50 miles a day, sometimes 200 as it is my work truck. The terrain varies from city/highway to 2-track trails and haul roads on earthwork project. I'm running no lift, no cranked torsion bars, 10" wide wheels in the back and 8.5" in front with 4" backspace.

Are you still running your stock 15x6 rims?

You could run 33x10.5" on the stock 6-inch rim...
