Here's the deal ... I have a sweet 2.8L GM 60 deg. V6 engine. I built it for my Fiero ... it should make about 185 hp naturally aspirated ... close to 220 with a turbo.
NOW .... I know that the Isuzu 4x4's utilized a GM 2.8L 60 deg. V6. So in theory my 2.8 should mount to a Izusu 5 speed tranny and transfer case. I would need to drill and tap the holes for the RWD motor mount application of coarse. Does this all sound feasable so far ???
Secondly, how durable are the Izusu 5 speeds and transfer cases .... based against what I already have in my 4 banger Gen1 ?
Thirdly ... has anyone ever mounted up the Izusu tranny in a Gen1 Montero ? .... would the mount points at the crossmember need major mods ... minor mods ... or is it a bolt in ? Would the driveshafts need to be modified ?
What other problems would y'all foresee with this engine swap ?
I'm just daydreaming at this point ... but I do already have the engine and finding an old Izusu doner rig can't be that hard ..............

Do a search, within the last three months there was a post about using an Isuzu Rodeo bellhousing to mate a small block Chevy with a Montero (Aisin-Warner) auto transmission.

I would but that wouldn't do me any good as the SBC requires a different bellhouing than the GM 60 degree block. If I could figure this out we could use 2.8 HO Fiero motors .... any GM 3.1, 3.1 McClarin turbo, 3.4 Camaro engines and the rocking 3.4 TDC engine as they all utilize the same block and bellhousing boltpattern. Quad 4 HO engines could also be used !!!

Let me get this right...a 2.8 GM motor, a Isuzu tranny and transfer case then bolted into a Gen 1 Montero.
Sounds like trouble to me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

I believe in australia they sell a kit to adapt that motor to a montero transmission. Sadly I cant recall the company.
