If the carb is NOT the Mitsu carb (and the mess of vacuum hoses are gone, check my web-site for the Vac Hoses pages), then you will fail smog test.
If you're only burning oil, there may be a few tricksto try first, but it depends on how bad you failed. The burning oil seems to mess up the cat, and it won't work very well anymore.

My HC's were 347 max allowable is 305
and CO's 7.58 max allowable is 3.57

Just spent a few hours at NorthShore Offroad this morning....shopping for goodies for my rig. Is there anywhere else you could suggest for aftermarket parts? As I expected, offroad parts are pretty much non-existant for this truck. I'm considering an ARB air locker (the only locker avail. for this truck) and I'm also trying to outfit myself with proper recovery gear. Trying to decide between highlift jack or a come-along.

Did it pass last year?
The carb is VERY important.
Is it Mitsu?
Does it look like the engine top in the Vac Hoses pages on my web-site (link in my name below).
The Weber usually will not pass smog test according to the USA members who have switched to them.

If it's just the oil, what's in there right now?
If it's cheap no-name thin stuff, try new filter and the Castrol Deisel 10W40, take it for a good 200km highway run, and then try passing smog test immediately after while the engine's hot. Pick a time in the day when there's no line-up, the idling will hurt you.


I might still have 2 spare Mitsu carbs in a box somewhere here. But you still need the hoses in there, and the controlers. I think I still have a spare rad here somewhere too. And an alternator. Etc.

Welcome to the website. I'm a Newbie Vancouver person too. Do you offroad your rig much, and if so, is there anywhere local (around Poco) where there are good trails to run this time of the year? Low trails that aren't snow covered?

Wondered about the hill. Used to know a guy on 7th there.

My rear ARB was installed at Northshore.
Trouble-free.
Good mechanics (or they used to be!).

I used to have a come-along a long way back with a different smaller vehicle, and it would be a LOT of work to move a regular weight vehicle! But very handy if you get out on your own! I have and use the 48" high-lift alot. But keep the spring-pin system very clean! With the rocker skids, I lift one side of the rig at once, and rotate tires!
Parts are real hard to find because they just don't exist in Canada (other than the ARB), and the shops here are $$$y. We're a captive market!

Try BC4x4 website, it's probably the biggest locally, and there's lots of trucks there. But very, very few Mitsubishi's!

Best bet is to ask for specific suggestions.
Since mine's a Montero (Raider), I don't know how much overlap there is between the 2 rigs.
With our front independent front suspensions, it's hard to get any lift other than by adjusting the torsion-bar resting position, and then getting the wheels re-aligned (or you chew up tires pretty fast!)
Look for CapnCrunch's recent list of mods he's done. It includes a lot of goodies , some of which may help you.
Your rear coil springs (if they're the same as the Montero) can be swapped for the GenII coils, and you gain a good rear lift.

the manifold joint olny has 3 hoses hooked up on mine the others are plugged off. i will have to double check the diagram. I only use castrol gtx 10w30

there used to be a place up in around Burke Mountain but I don't know how it is up there anymore. Stave Lake has some good 4Xing trails as well, been there a few times.
