1988 Isuzu Trooper II....got the alternator loose, but can't get it out of the engine compartment. Any tricks or is the easiset thing to remove the bottom radiator hose and drop the alternator thru there?

Have you taken the adjust out too? There's a bolt that holds it to a bracket on the block. That should give you enough room without it in the way. Shouldn't need to remove the lower hose.

The alternator is completely loose, but I can't seem to find a space big enough to pull it out without it getting caught up against something.

Not sure what you're referring to when you ask if I've taken the adjust out too. If that's a part separate from the alternator I don't know what it is and I don't see any part is bolted with one bolt into a bracket on the block.

The alternator is held in with 2 bolts. One on top, one on bottom. The top bolt goes through the adjuster bracket. Take that bracket out and the alternator should slide through.

I think that adjust bracket is below the air pump. That would still be in the way I think. Am I supposed to remove the air pump as well?

Getting the air pump out of the way makes the alt a breeze.

I'm pretty sure removing the bottom radiator hose does the same as removing the air pump in making the alternator removal a breeze, but I was looking for an easier way.

Yeah, but which would you rather do? Loosen a bolt, slip a belt and swing an air pump out of the way or get a bath with coolant and have to fill up and purge the engine of air (not to mention that hoses tend to weld themselves to the metal over time so they generally have to be cut off and replaced.) I'll take working, dry, from the top any day.
