I am putting 32" tires on my 88 pickup. What gear ratio should I run with these?? I don't know my stock ratio yet, but I am hoping that will be ok for now.. Is there any site or formula that will tell me what ratio for what tire is needed to keep it close or the same as factory??

As for the ideal ratio, that depends on a few things. Firstly, which transmission do you have, manual or auto? Then, what are your uses/plans for teh truck? E.g., mostly city or not, plan to move up to 33s eventually or really plan to stick w/ these, etc. If m/t, 4.88 will be a little overgeared but for offroad this is good, if a/t it's a bit undergeared... if you plan to need much power, for the a/t you migh tas well go for the 5.29s, esp if you have an inkling for bigger tires later. Re: stock ratio, if you provide the prev info and the end of your VIN we can tell you. But here's a great calculator to figure it all out: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/4LoCalc.shtml#MetricTire

I was hoping my gear ratio now will be ok until I change gears for the larger tires.. the VIN is JT4RN63A4J8012266

Your speedometer/mileage will be about 14% off, i.e., if your speedo says 50, you are actually going about 57mph, and you will have to add 14.29 miles per 100 miles travelded when figuring your mpg. You will also shorten the life of the clutch and you will lose some over all mpg's.
When you do decide to change gears you will want either 4.88's or 5.29's for the 34's. Since a lot of people tend to go bigger and bigger with tires, you should go with the 5.29's when you change the gears. This will give you the option of running 35's or 36's if /when you decide that the 34's just aren't quite big enough.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

So do any of you guys think I will be crazy or regret putting 32's on my stock gears for now. I think mine are 4.10 but that is just a wild guess!! As I said before, my truck is in the shop so I don't know the ratio.

I ran 4.10s with 35s for about 5 years. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Do it, 32's should be ok. You might lose some function out of 5th gear, but just down shift on overpasses and bridges.

I have 4:88 in mine and turning 33" swampers I dont have much of a 4th/5th gear going up hills at all! 3rd gear is my power gear. This might apply to your truck as well if you do 34" with the 4:88. My Boyfriend has 36" swampers with the stock gears (4:10) and he doesnt even have 5th gear..he's truck cant pull it!..
