02 sensor mounting flange pics

I took some shots of my 02 sensors. The above picture shows the condition of both of them. It looks as if the studs are pretty clean. A different alloy or hardness maybe? Does anyone think I have a shot at grinding down what's left of the nuts, then peeling away what's left of them from the studs? I've done this before on body panels where the bolts have busted off. I was able to get well centered with a punch and drill the bolt out, then I pulled out what remained. It looked like a helicoil. I'm guessing this might be different because of the heat on the parts. Totally bonded together by rust? If that's the case, is there a part # for a replacement flange, and should I be prepared to have new one's welded on at an exhaust shop? Has anyone had to have this done?

I had one of my studs shear off. I ground the flange off and made a new one, welded some bolts through the back side and then onto the exhaust pipe, as far as replacements go i had a hard time finding one, never did. an exhaust shop would probably have access to one,

you could probably tap the holes and get thread in some new studs.

Penetrating oil and a socket smacked on over that. I took some off my old camry that were like that, penetrating oil worked and the rust came off when I smacked a ratchet on.

That dont work try heat

pb blaster every day for a few days. they will come off. the threads on the studs will be fine. as said, maybe find a socket one size smaller (even convert back to SAE), pound it on and then take it off.

I swear by this stuff. I tried everything to free up the heat valve in the exhaust manifold in a 1972 Hornet. PB blaster, WD40, Triflo, Liquid Wrench, etc. The next day after using this stuff it freed up. It is not cheap but sure works.

That's all I use. I lost my faith in all the others years ago. It's worth every extra penny per drop.

Just changed my O2 sensor last night. My nuts weren't quite that bad, but they were bad. I shot them with WD40 and they came loose a lot easier than I thought they would. I had more trouble getting the damned clip undone. You might even be able to get them to move with a pair of Channellocks. The studs should be stainless steel.

Well, after PB Blasting for a week I climbed under to have a look. I ended up using a really mini vise grip and gripped the nuts by the base. Not too much pressure, and they all came off! What was strange was that the threads inside those wildly rusted nuts were perfect. No shyte. The threads on each stud were perfect too. I had a die but there wasn't a case to use it. I gotta say, it was nice not being half phucked this time. Well, there's always next time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
