Need a Spot

Bought used recently. Previous owner had a brand new battery in it. Does not always start on a cold start. Some combination of waiting, turning the key and praying eventually starts it. On a warm start, it starts instantly every time.

It is a 5 speed and I have to depress the clutch to start it. When it doesn't start, it seems exactly as if the clutch is not depressed (though it is). The e-brake cable is broken BTW.

Is it likely something to do with the clutch cancel function? Is there a way to bypass that so I can troubleshoot further?

Whatr search terms would help me to look up similar issues in past threads?

Sounds a bit like your contacts are stuffed in the starter motor. Have a look at this link and see if that helps any <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

You have a few possibilities here:

Starter contacts
Clutch out of adjustment
Fuel pressure issue

Check dem dere cable connections and make sure all is good to go; clean/dry/serviceable.

If the truck doesn't like to start at its first crank of the day, then cranks fine for the rest of the day, your fuel pressure might be bleeding off; usually the CS or fuel injectors or both.

22RE or 3.0?

The clutch cancel switch bypasses the pedal switch to start in neutral, meant for hill starts. The pedal switch might be out of adjustment; also check your free play and travel before chasing other stuff.
Clutch Maintenance

We have a 93 FSM sticky'd here that'll get you in the ballpark too.
