I finally got a suitable wiki installed and base configuration done - and by base, I mean very basic. You can visit it, sign up for an account, if you create an account post here your name etc so I can make you a sysop. I have a ton of config to do so expect changes! However any content created will remain in place. It is a wiki. This means you can edit things. So instead of saying "Joe can you change this page", change it yourself - you have arms and fingers and eyeballs just like me. That includes admin-type pages such as Help, Editing, etc. If you clicky clicky me, me take you to wiki long time.

O and BTW, please don't publicize it. I don't mind if people stumble upon it, but let's kinda keep it to ourselves until we're ready for a formal, public introduction.

Cool looking
I assume we can start populating it by putting links in the appropriate places to existing articles..

I would suggest only putting links to existing static content under pages like Tech, Maint, Product Reviews.
This isn't a content management system. The idea is to populate the wiki with articles, and to use links very judiciously. For example Dan, your OBD-II articles might be good under Toyota --> Electonics?
We need to discuss a policy of external offsite links. I can see this getting spammed with links to other sites.

I am going to refrain from adding people to the sysop group until I get a feel for who is really working on the wiki and wants to volunteer to help admin it.

Question from the wikki-challenged guy...
When adding content for, say the Isuzu section, are we supposed to be adding stuff about Isuzus in general (like what vehicles/years had what engines/axles/transmissions/etc), or content about the off-road mods available for Isuzus, or both, or neither? I guess I'm unclear about whether the brand-specific forums are only supposed to contain 4x4wire-specific content

Only thing I'm wondering about is copyright information. There is a lot of good specs and info on some various sights on the internet, and it would be nice to bring it all together in one place. I'm just afraid id make people mad by putting it all on one page. For example, some good 4Runner history on this page. http://www.top4runners.com/ja/runhist1.htmlI don't know if he pulled it all of some other site, or put it all together himself. And Marlin has excellent transmission and transfer case info on his site http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/transmission.htmSo, would it be better to maybe just put a link to these sights, or go ahead and use the information and maybe put it in my own words?

So for example: - it would be awesome if people started spec pages under each brand (I can scope it out just like the Toy Section I started); - make categories for article content - repairs, mods, tech, etc. So actual articles can be posted, just as they used to be posted on the static 4x4Wire pages. Adam, we cannot post any copyrighted material. I *thought* it was pretty clear on the wiki that this is verboten. And to throw another thing out there, I don't want to copyright our wiki contents. It's community developed, and should be free to anyone.

Joe and all,
You know that I'm all on board about this idea, and I'll be digging into it hard in a couple of weeks, once my MBA is finished (only 3 weeks left, but who's counting?). I'll try to start making little forays into it before then, but I kind of have to focus on the school thing at the moment.
