the steering wheel is a bit top heavy so it will rotate as soon as your unbolt it...ive never tried this but you could probably tape the steering wheel to the dash to make it stationary, also do this with the steering locked, my experience has been to unbolt the shaft from the rag joint and pull it out after unbolting/marking the splines at the steering wheel.
