Roll Me Over
Well, I got the cutting finished on the cross-member this evening. Thursday I will reinforce the skeleton that is left. I may make it yet.

Tomorrow morning I will hook up the power steering lines to the gear box.

After that I just have to reassemble the braking system and do an eyeball setting of the tie-rods so I can get to an alignment.

This morning I got the power steering lines connected and the air line run for the front locker. I like progress. Now it's time to go to work.

Well, I almost got my cross-member finished today. Actually I thought that I did get it finished. I used some pieces of 1/2" plate to create a base for a new plate to strengthen the surgery site. I then used some 3/16" plate to create a new surface for the bottom of the cross-member. It basically protects the pinion in the same way that the original did, but stronger.

Unfortuately the fact that I am welding 20+ miles from the truck came back to bite me. Since I wasn't checking the fit as I went, I failed to notice that the cross-member had bent at the point of the cut. The only solution was to cut the new plate. I will weld on a patch on Monday.

Before anyone asks, there are no pictures.

With the drop section, that part of the cross-member is now at the same level as the bottom of the pumpkin, so I didn't lose any ground clearance.

Need a Spot
2 inches of snow yesterday in Lake Tahoe and it is 24 degrees this AM. I hope to install StinkyFab pre-bent lower links with Rubicon Express Joints this weekend. Have been driving aroung emptying the gas tank to prepare. Gas tank must be unbolted & moved to provide access.

Can't plan for funerals...I have been out of town all week for work, and will be next week too. But I'll be home tomorrow and I hope to get the front end reassembled with the new components...
