That is the intake from an earlier 22RE (85-87/8)... The sensor is used to bump up fuel pressure when hot starting the engine.

Not the best location for a fan controller. If the thermostat is sticky, the fan could be fooled by a lower reading than actual engine coolant temp, and not activate the fan.

Use the engine block drain, 3/4 of the way back on the driver's side of the engine, low on the block... Gives you a more accurate temp reading.
