I expected prices in places like California to be higher than they appear to be. It looks like competition from big companies like GEICO, AIG and Progressive has actually lowered rates in the last 12 years or so. Back in the day, it was State Farm, AllState, AAA or Farmers. I remember when I first tried to get insurance in CA, in 1985, it seemed like they weren't even sure if they wanted my business. Glad things have changed for the better. -- matt
