Yea, usually your gas mileage takes a big hike down and you can get a CEL. I know mine must have been replaced at some point or theoriginals are holding up well b/c I get exactly or better that Toyota advertises for mpg-16-17mpg.

how does one know your O2 sensor is going bad? ive got no CEL or codes right now...but mine are original... Here in CA, my experience has been that when its worn out I failed smog check due to high NOX (running hot/lean). Replacing the pre-cat sensor fixed it both times. I just bought OEM from the dealer...

I read on another forum that Toyota will replace the 02 sensor for free when the truck hits 80,000 miles., according to the poster there is a reference to it in the "maintenance section of the manual" I don't have that manual.
Any one know anything about this?

Guys,
I wish I'd read this sooner. I replaced mine last week with a Bosch unit. It went in fine. Same mounting flange, same wiring harness, but it was shorter. I have been getting about the same mileage, but was hoping for more. I guess I should have called the dealership.

I could be wrong, but I doubt that Toyota is passing out new O2/AF sensors at 80K miles.
Auto manufacturers are required by law to warranty the emmissions controls for 80K, but unless you've got a CEL triggered by an O2/AF sensor code, or you've failed a smog check, once you get to 80K miles on the clock, I'll bet you'll be on your own nickel.

They did extend the warranty on the evaporative emissions control system on certain 96-98 Ts to 14yrs or 150K miles. Letters were sent to the owners listed in Toyota's records, but that doesn't help you with the O2 sensor.

Does anyone have the T100 maintenance or warranty booklet to look for that reference to the O2 sensor?

I've used both. The original Toyota sensors were no good. I've already replace three of them. Two more and I'll have all of them replaced. Seems the heat shield is the problem on those sensors from early Tundra's. Just don't use the universal sensor and you'll be O.K.
