changing the rear wheel bearing in order to change a leaking seal. got the axle out and the bearing is tapered. i bought the bearing below because it was what all the online parts stores said i needed.

bearing from rock auto

this bearing is cylindrical and not tapered. the od and id are correct. also, the retainer is a lot thicker than the one i just pulled out. anyone know the part number i really need? i would like to buy locally from oreilly's, napa, or autozone if possible. last resort, i'll get one from st charles.

If you've already got the bearing out, just take it with you to the parts store. It should have a number on it somewhere. Nothing else, they should be able to get the book out and match it up by measurements. Personally, I'd go to O'Reilly's or Napa for it. I KNOW they've got the books. Autozone really doesn't. They're more of, if it ain't in the computer, we can't get it.

went ahead drove 45 minutes to the closest isuzu stealer and paid $100 for their kit. for future reference, the bearing and seal numbers follow:

Rear wheel seal - C|R 18731

Rear wheel bearing
Timken - U360L 097
Timken - U399 097

the following from napa looks to be the same, but i did not get one to see for sure.
kit from napa

8-97081-945-0 is printed on my receipt. i left the box at the machine shop. when i pick up the axle tomorrow, i'll ask if they kept the box to confirm.

edit: box was long gone when i went to the machine shop. i am pretty sure the parts monkey would match the invoice to the parts he gave me. i'll stick by 8-97081-945-0.
