Hey all. Well after selling all my offroad stuff and buying an affordable comuter, I could only restrain my 4wheeling desirses for so long. I really missed it after only 8 months. I have been keeping my eyes open for a new project for a few weeks hoping a really cheap "something" would pop up. I was focused on a Trooper or Rodeo but anything woulda givin me my fix. Low and behold Today I was BS-ing with a co-worker about quads and then it went into 4wheeling. I mentioned The best 4x4 I ever owned was a Trooper. He commented that he had one that was givin to him that had a rod knock. He also said he had no time for another project. I offered him $200 for it. He said OK. It gets better, I got to thinking about our conversation on quads and it dawned on me that I had a 86 Honda that was givin to me that needed some work. I quickly asked if he wanted to trade. He said OK. And so we did. I now have a 88 Trooper LS sitting in front of my house that cost me about $15 in gas.
Like I said it has a rod knock(which I haven't heard yet cause I haven't started it). And it needs two fenders, and two doors. So it's not perfect but it was FREEEEEEE! I'll get some quick pics tomorrow when it is light and not raining. I'm going to bed now and count Troopers climbing rocks!!

4cyl/auto. No pine air freshener but it did come with 10 marlboro miles . The wife is already trying to put claim on it so she can keep the miles off her Impala. I'm gonna try and start it tomorrow and see what I'm dealing with. If it knocks I'm buying a V8 for it. If it doesn't knock I'm gonna drive it for a month or so and then buy a V8 for it . I'm thinking LT1/5spd/???

Well I had about 20 minutes to mess with it today and I tried to start it. But the starter wouldn't turn over and the cylinoid would'nt even click so I think I have a loose wire somewhere. I did hear the fuel pump running when turning the key to the start position though. I'll look into it more when time allows.

I crawled under it last night to look it over and man this thing looks spotless. Not a drip or even a wet spot anywhere under it. I am still amazed that it only has 86k miles on it and it's an 88 model.

One thing that has me curious is the blue valve cover. It's not painted, it is anodized. Is it stock? I couldn't imagine someone spending the money to have that done unless they've invested a little in the top end of it.

I like the clearance lights on the roof.

Free is always good.

yep it has oil and it is spot on the full mark and even looks fairly clean with no moisture. The Tranny fuild loks perfect too. Maintanence recrods look good too. I really want to get it started cause I can't imagine why it has a knock looking at how good it has been taken care of. The damage to the drivers side is from a the guys truck popping out of gear and rolling down the driveway into the Trooper.

The clearance lights will be the first to go. The guy I got it from said he thought they were stock. I was like, um....don't think so.

Never devote money toward making a beater trail truck pretty Those fenders and doors could be a locker or two, or some Tera's... and you know you'd rather have those than straight body lines Nice find!
