I'm shying away from the pre-duramax gm diesels (basically the only ones I can afford) because I've heard that they aren't the most reliable and are pretty expensive to fix. thanks for the links though truely i'd prefer a cummins but to find one in my budget that isn't beat or under 200k miles is next to impossible.

hehe..I'd shy away from the 6.2 for sure..not the most powerful engine by any means, and yes they do have a few issues..nothing too major but stuff that adds up and is a pain in the rear..like oil cooler lines

I think of it the same way as the guys who trailer their motorcycles to Sturgis. It just seems less authentic, and cheaper.

True enough, but the guys going to Sturgis are not crawling over rocks and doing things to their ride that can very likely leave it disabled, smashed or otherwise undrivalble. Nor are they riding vehicles that are modified to the point of not really being suitable for long distance, hi-speed highway driving. 4-wheeling is a whole different matter.

Towing eases the mind a *lot* knowing that you're not beating on your only way home. The less stock your are, the better towing looks.

Roll Me Over
I figure that I have one mod left (after the current in-progress ones) and then if I am going to go to Moab, then I will need a tow rig and trailer. That mod is the transfer case gears. Not a big deal since the gears won't effect roadability.

Of course my drive to Moab is over 1100 miles, one way.

I HAVE NOT breached the subject of tow rig and trailer with the controller/wife. In addition, if I do go further, about the only thing left that will be Isuzu will be parts of the body and a bit of the frame.

...not that there's anything wrong with that!

how to get the Wifey to let you get a tow rig.
1)take her wheeling and go with friends who tow.
2)let the interior of your vehicle get really dusty/dirty/muddy and down right filthy. Better if its hot and you don't have A/C.
3)wheel until she is hot, tired and a wee bit crabby
4)Suggest she ride home with your buddy in his nice cool, CLEAN tow rig.

got my fingers crossed for the 2000 f250 super duty. I checked it out yesterday morning and aside from some dings and scratches, it seemed like a good truck. has the low first gear in the manual too. as long as the guy still has it monday, I'll probably be picking it up.
