It's not what you think!

Kathy and I have been giving some pretty serious thought to the idea of maybe selling the VehiCROSS - and NO, despite my reputation, this ISN'T an April Fools!

Before buying it, the following were replaced:
--the gauge cluster
--the speed sensor

Since getting it, we've replaced/installed:
--the tires (255/70/R16 Bridgestone A/T REVOs)
--the steering recirculation/cooler line
--the fluids (all of them), plus a new transmission filter
--the mufler
--the intake manafold gaskets (OEM)
--the shocks (twice: RS-9000Xs & Gabriel Ultras)
--the ball joints (OEM, upper & lower)
--the brake rotors and pads (OEM, front & rear)
--the front wheel bearings (OEM, inner & outer), plus new seals
--the speed sensor (again)
--Inependent4x heavy-duty tie rods
--Energy Suspensions' poly sway bushings (front & rear)

Not yet installed, I also have:
--two new OEM transmission cooler lines
--a used steering box

Plus, I have:
--the original gauge cluster
--a spare Power/Winter button
--the OEM shocks
--the Rancho 9000Xs

If installing the above steering box (and re-installing either the Ranchos or the OEM shocks) doesn't finally get it handling like I think it should - and if I can't soon figure out why the spedometer still doesn't work - there's about a 99% chance that we're going to let it go... hopefully to a good home - one where someone would be willing to keep trying until they discovered whatever it is that I've missed.

SOOOOOOO - with about $1800+ in parts already installed, plus a set of 'almost new' tires with roughly 3000 miles on them... about what is a 114/115K mile (estimated) VehiCROSS worth these days, anyhow?

Trust me; I honestly wish this was an April Fools <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

Have you tried asking over at Vehicross.info about what ills your VX?
Also will get a good idea of its worth by looking at the for sell section and seeing what others are asking for theirs. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Prsonally, I wouldn't sell my 99 w/103000+ for anything under $60,000! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Actually, that's in the neighborhood of what I was guessing -- Thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

But, just for the record, I haven't thrown-in the towel quite yet.

I've thought about it -- and I still may.

True, but I guess I was wondering more about the value of all of those mods and repairs, versus the fact that the speedo & odo still don't work, as well as the poor handling issue - and wanted to seek opinions from a broader base of Isuzuholics.

Also, a whole lot more folks here are already familiar with my 'finely tuned Seat-of-the-Pants-Meter', so when I say that the VX is handling poorly, that claim is being measured against a HUGE number of comments that I've made in the past about the Rodeo...

That said; it probably means a great deal more *here* when I say that I feel quite a bit less confident when driving the VX than I do driving the Rodeo (which, BTW, still needs the Idler Relay Lever replaced!)

I'm sure it's something simple...
Maybe the Steering Box, or perhaps a set of A-arm Bushings, etc. - but after the long list of everything else that I've already replaced, I'm just about at my wit's end trying to nail-down the source of the problem.

If my`99 drove anything like I suspect yours does, frankly, neither would I <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I test drove another VX several months ago, and it really opened my eyes as to how much better it absorbed all of the bumps in the road (compared to any of the sets of shocks that I've had on mine), and it almost totally lacked bumpsteer -- Basically, it just felt a whole lot more 'planted' (understatement!)

Well, most folks won't care much about repairs made to get it back to function. Sad, but true... little value comes from restoration-of-function to the base level of function that the vehicle had when new. Anything less means a price cut, anything more (upgrades!) is frustratingly neutral if you're selling, and often cost-free bonus if you're buying. Worse yet, speedo and odo non-function eliminates a usage reference against which value is assessed, and most buyers will assume either tampering or MANY miles.

Report further performance issues at your own peril, Jeff... I won't advise you to lie or be artificially circumspect, but do realize that you are creating a searchable record for future owners, if they have the acumen/abilities to search it out. That's especially an issue for rare vehicles, say... Vehicross, Shelby Cobra, Uzi, etc. (one of those has value <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> FAR <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> beyond the other!).

I'm all for fixing things on my own, and often do, but have been to the dealer occasionally. Have you considered going to the nearest dealer for diagnosis (and possible repair)?

Thanks Randy,

And you're right; there *is* a searchable record -- but intentionally so.

*IF* I choose to sell, I want the next owner to be someone that I can look directly in the eyes afterward - so I want them to be fully aware of what they are getting, including what still needs to be done to it. --- To that end, I will freely *provide* them with all of the Isuzu web addresses, and openly invite them to search away!

Call me crazy, but I value my personal integrity far more than a any profit margin that I might gain by witholding information. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
