With a torsion bar stretcher. Harbor Freight always stocks them, though you may have to ask every employee in the store where they are located. That seems to be my luck.

So to lengthen I would have to go out and buy a part for them I just couldn't go and take them down and unscrew something to lengthen them? And if so what does this part look like.

It's not a part, it's a tool. Torsion bars are not length adjustable, thus necessitating a stretcher. My local Harbor Freight stopped carrying them about 6 months ago, but the dealership I work at has been selling them over the front counter (parts department) for as long as I can remember. GM sometimes supplies bars that are a little shorter than spec, so we give them a bit of stretch before they get delivered to the customer.

I think our parts department sells the stretcher for about $70 plus tax (California <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />)

So what you are saying is that I have to stretch out my torsion bars. But by doing this wouldn't it weaken the bar or would it depend on how much I lengthen it? Would any metal stretcher work for this or does it have to be a specific tool made just for this. Is there anyway that a dealership would be able to lengthen them for me if I brought them there for a certain price? [color:"green"] [/color]

All you can do is call your local GM dealer and ask. Or just stop by so they can see what they have to work with. Some dealers will do this, some won't.

There is not such thing as a T-bar stretcher.

Not that you'd know about. All the Canadian GM trucks have proper t-bars in them already.

Torsion bars are a fixed length. There isn't an adjustment to make them longer.

Are you wnating to tighten them so as to acheive an increase in curb height?
