FWIW, I'm using a TPS from a 89 or 90 toyota camry on my 86 22RE 4Runner. It's been in there for 3yrs and no problems yet.

I don't see a difference in older vs. newer parts. If it has the same connectors, it should work. You'll still have to calibrate it. If you have a pick 'n pull near you, just take your old TPS with you to match. As I recall, most TPS from toyota cars will fit the trucks/4Runners.
